Chernobyl Children's Project International (CCPI) helps families and children who are affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986.  We do this through a variety of medical and community development programs. Much of our work is done by  volunteers who work in partnership with their peers in Chernobyl-affected regions.  Our work with the children of Belarus was featured in HBO's Academy-Award winning film, Chernobyl Heart.

We are the sister organization of Adi Roche's Chernobyl Children's Project International in Ireland.  We believe that people in Chernobyl regions ( in Belarus, Ukraine, and western Russia) want to be independent and to move on with their lives, and that the best thing we can do to help is to support this desire.  In order to do this, our programs address the domino effect of poverty, poor health, and social impact that were the legacy of the disaster.

We give special consideration to children, who are always the most vulnerable members of society in times of difficulty. Volunteers play a special role in our organization . . . our volunteers are professionals who work shoulder to shoulder with their counterparts in the region to exchange skills and build peer relationships.

In 2006, we were awarded "Special Congressional Recognition" for "outstanding humanitarian work to aid children affected by the Chernobyl catastrophe," and we have been featured on CNN, the "CBS Early Morning Show," and others.  We have addressed the United Nations General Assembly, and testified before US Congress and the Helsinki Committee.

We are a 501(c)3 non profit organization, and we are a United Nations-recognized NGO.  Donations to Chernobyl Children's Project International are tax deductible.
